The inner tourism maintained a fast development, promoted remarkably by the three long holidays of the Celebration of the Spring (lunar New Year), the 1 of May and the 1 of October (National Day of China). In all the year, 744,45 million people traveled by the country, with an increase of the 3,5% on the previous year, which rendered an inner tourist entrance of 317.600 million of yuanes, for an increase of 12,1%.

The international tourism showed new and solid advances. In 2000, the number of the tourists who arrived overseas elevated to 83,44 million, which supposes an increase of the 14,6%. Of that total, the foreign tourists were 10,16 million, for an increase of the 20,5%, and those of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, 73,21 million, for an increase of the 13,9%. Convertible the currency income derived from the international tourism totalized 16.200 million dollars, which represents an increase of the 15,1%. The number of Chinese that left the country ascended to 10,47 million, for an increase of the 13,4%. Among them, 5,63 million left by deprived subjects, for an increase of 32%.
