Industry and construction
The industrial production underwent a fast growth. In 2000 the added value total of the industrial sector reached 3,957 trillions from yuanes, which represents an increase of 9,9% on the previous year. Between this sum, the state companies, the holding company state and the nonstate ones with annual sales of more than 5 million of yuanes each (denominated in companies of scale the ahead required and superior) registered a added value total of 2,3685 trillions of yuanes, for an increase of the 11,4%. Between the companies of required scale and inferior, state and the holding company state they knew a value added total 1,4032 trillions of yuanes, with an increase of 10,1%, higher number from year 1994; the collective companies, a total of 330.100 million of yuanes, for an increase of the 7,4%; the companies by action, a total of 495.400 million of yuanes, with an increase of 14,5%; and the companies with foreign investment and of investment of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, a total of 533.300 million of yuanes, for an increase of the 14,6%. As far as the light industry, the added value was of 950.600 million of yuanes, for an increase of the 9,5%; and as far as the heavy industry, the S-value of 1,4179 trillions, with an increase of 13%. The connection between the production and the sale followed mejorándo. In 2000 the companies of required scale and superior reached a rate of sale of 97,71%, with an elevation of 0,46 percentage points against the previous year.
The industrial reconstruction reached positive advances. The development of high tech products was accelerated with added value. The production of new industrial articles was increased in 26,3% in relation to the previous year. The manufacturing sector of electronic and equipment of telecommunications became the first pillar of the industrial economy. The capacity of production of the industry of facilities rose to a certain extent. Near 70% of the equipment for the new projects of construction of urban railroads they were bought in the country. National facilities in the sector of environmental protection were used successively. The production of cutting mechanical of metals registered an increase of 34,3% against the previous year; of electrical tools, 37,1%; of smelting equipment, 9,2%; of equipment of chemical industry, 4,4%; and of facilities for the prevention and the treatment of the air pollution, 6,2%. The coal sector still more rendered remarkable successes with the closing of mines and the reduction of the production, the prices stayed stable with the tendency to the rise and all the sector to a great extent diminished the losses during the year. The metalérgico sector obtained progresses as far as the control of the total volume, with a slow growth with respect to the annual steel production. The prices raised and the benefits of the sector increased remarkably. The sugar sector, that had registered losses in four years consecutive, was able to turn the losses into gains through the optimization of the structure of the regions of the culture, and the readjustment and the reduction of the slow capacity of sugar production, closing 150 factories altogether and eliminating 2,73 million tons of production capacity. As far as the textile sector, after the readjustment in the three preceding years and on the base of the integral elimination of the losses realized the previous year, it obtained a great increase of gains in 2000.
The triennial objective was reached basically after the state companies with respect to the reform and the liberation of its difficult situation. The median and majority great companies of state property established the modern enterprise system preliminarily, mainly a great némero of companies in great scale and groups of companies carried out the reorganization or fusion in agreement with the international practice, and they quoted successfully in the market of international capital. Through the reorganization, the union, the fusion and other forms, the transformation of the operational mechanism of the small state companies was fortified and its operational situation improved. In the 31 provinces (independent regions and municipalities directly subordinated to the Central Government), the sectors of the State managed to turn the losses into gains as a whole or increased the gains. By the end of 2000, 12 of the 14 main sectors of state key supervision realized the integral elimination of the losses or continued increasing the gains. The 6.599 great and medians industrial companies of state property that had losses by the end of 1997 diminished them in more of a 70% by the end of 2000.
The sector of the construction grew of stable way, with a continuous improvement in the economic results. The added value of the sector in all the country reached to 591.800 million of yuanes, which supposes an increase of the 6,2% on the previous year. The construction companies of fourth category and superior obtained benefits by 16.600 million of yuanes, for an increase of the 7,0%; and the paid taxes rose to 35.800 million of yuanes, for an increase of the 5,4%. 680.716 projects of construction were carried out. Of them 311.924 projects, that is to say, the 45,8% of the total, were projects by licitation and contract. The work surface was of 1.551,75 million squared meters, with an increase of 79,13 million meters squared against the preceding year; the surface of finished buildings totalized 738,35 million squared meters, which represents a diminution of 898.000 meters square. The deficit construction companies were 9.553, for a reduction of 134 in comparison with the previous year. The deficit rate was 19,2%, 1,3 percentage points less than the previous year.
The investigations on the resources of the national territory and the geologic prospections discovered new reserves, great and medians, of 249 minerals; and were verified additional reserves (foretold) of 38 minerals, including 762 million tons of petroleum, 493.100 million cébicos meters of natural gas, and 1.459 million tons of crude coal. There were in all the country 31 stations of geologic supervision environmental, that foretold 83 geologic disasters successfully.
