President of the People's Republic of China

The effective Constitution prescribes the powers of the President of the State as it follows: to promulgate the laws approved by the Permanent Committee of the APN, to name or to dismiss to the members of the Council of State, to confer the state decorations and honorary titles to the citizens according to decided by the APN or the their Permanent Committee, to decree special amnesties, to proclaim the martial law, to declare the state military, to decree the mobilization, to accept credentials of the foreign envoys in representation of the People's Republic of China, to send or to retire to the plenipotentiary representatives of the nation in other States, and to ratify or to countermand treaties and the signed agreements of importance with foreign States.
The system of Head of the State of China is a system of collective direction. The President of the State is subordinated to the APN and accomplish a mission entrusted directly by the supreme organ of the power of the State.
The previous Presidents of State of China have been Mao Zedong, Liu Shaoqi, Li Xiannian and Yang Shangkun.
The present President of the State of China is Jiang Zemin. His Vice-president is Hu Jintao.
